Threading the Needle

1) Insert the threader from the tip of the needle until it passes through the whole needle and comes out at the back.

2) Now, insert the thread into the threader’s loop.

3) Pull the threader back out of the needle.

4) Insert the threader through the back of the eye of the needle.

5) Now, insert the thread in the threader’s loop.

6) Pull the threader back out the needle’s eye.

Punching Technique

1) Take the fabric and set it on the embroidery hoop.

2) Now, draw any design you like.

3) Take the threaded punch needle and hold it at the grip like a pen.

4) Now, punch the needle into the fabric and push it all the way into the fabric.

5) Take the needle out making sure that you don’t take it much away from the fabric. Just lift it enough to make a stitch closely. (Lifting needle too high will create unwanted loops so always keep the needle close to the fabric.)

So, this is how you use the punch needle. Now, let’s explore various stitches that can be created using this magic pen.

Different stitches that can be created with Punch Needle

There are three different stitches that can be created with a punch needle:

1) Back Stitch

These designs are made with the back stitch. You can create it in a straight, zigzag, spiral manner. You can have fun and play with this stitch to make various beautiful patterns.

2) Satin Stitch

This beautiful stitch is punched in a zigzag manner. When it’s done it is really smooth to touch, hence the name. You can use this stitch to fill in designs very easily and nicely. This will give your embroidery design a beautiful three-dimensional effect.

3) Loop Stitch

This is another beautiful stitch which can’t be created with any other needle. For this, you have to make stitches at the wrong/back side of the fabric. So, first flip your embroidery frame. Now, make normal stitches by punching the needle. While making the stitches be sure that your stitches are close to each other to get dense loops.

Also, do not lift the needle up high. This will make your loops uneven so always keep the needle close to the fabric.

Tip: Long needle make long loops and small needle make small loops. So, adjust the size of the needle according to the length of the loop desired.

To get different textures, you can cut the end of the loops. You can trim them as you want. I would recommend trimming to various length and find what works for you. This will also give your embroidery design a beautiful three-dimensional effect.
