Paillettes: -
These are originally flat base center hole round mini metal discs. Earlier it was made from expensive metal like gold and silver but now good quality Paillettes are made from brass metal. Never buy, if they are made from Iron metal. Because paillettes made from brass metal have higher resistance against rust than iron made. They are always made in gold color first and then by using real silver in the electrotype process they are made in silver color. That’s why silver paillettes are more expensive than the gold paillettes.
The more the silver you use in making it, the more it becomes prone to rust because of silver’s natural property. So, to keep silver away from rust, we give a lacquer polish on them. It makes the silver little dull but it saves them from rust.
Never iron metal paillettes because ironing will leave marks on them.
Sequins: -
We will say that sequin is the new fashion name of paillettes. Sequins were also originally made from metal but now they are made from plastic and just to differentiate them from paillettes, these are basically center hole cupped shape little discs. You can have more than 100 different finishes in sequins these days like pearl finish, rainbow finish, crystal finish, luster finish, matte finish, metallic finish, and so on. Unlimited colors, sizes and variations are developed in this category. They are light in weight. So, you can easily sew then on clothes, bags, shoes etc. To protect the environment, we make lead free, cadmium free, and phthalate-free sequins. Now flat base center hole round sequins are also made.
Always be very careful of washing and ironing the apparels that have sequins embroidery work on it. Never iron or steam directly on the sequins, if you do then it will loose its luster or can brake also.
Spangles: -
These are one type of sequins. The sequins with top holes are called spangles you can basically stitch them in hanging position on fabrics, clothes, and dresses. Because of their end finish, these are very popular in current fashion. Round sequins with a top hole are the original spangles design. Now, we have leaf shape, flower shape, rectangle, and many other shapes of spangles in lots of colors and finishes. Again, be extra careful when you are washing or ironing clothes with spangles' work.
One of the most important designs that have been developed in spangles is the reversible sequins design which has a different finish on each side. The end-user can change the colors and finish of the stitched spangles by just pushing all of them on one side.
In metal, these spangles are called charms, which are used a lot in handicraft projects and making jewelry like earrings, necklaces, and bracelets.
